			Race
			- Predominantly white - Large Asian population - Sizable population listed as 'other' - Significant Latino population
			Kerry won all racial groups, except the 22% who identified as "other." Bush eked out a narrow win there.
			Age
			Seniors - tie All others - Kerry
			Kerry did best among the youth vote, winning 61%, but he won all the groups except those over age 60, who were split down the middle.
			Economics
			All groups - Kerry
			Class didn't seem to have much effect on Hawaiians. All groups voted for Kerry. No real pattern emerged but he did best among the working class - a 20-point win - and poorest among those making $50,000-$75,000, a two-point win.
			Politics
			- Low partisanship - Large Democratic tilt - Poor Democratic loyalty - Good Republican loyalty - Independents tilt somewhat Democratic
			At 83% Hawaii Democrats are not very loyal to their party but there are enough of them that it doesn't matter. Republicans are outnumbered by 16 points here so even though they stick together fairly well, its just no use. Forty percent of Hawaii is Democratic and Kerry even took the independents by eight points for good measure.
			Ideology
			- Significant liberal tilt
			Hawaii liberals boast a six point advantage on conservatives. Hawaii is one of only seven states to have more lefties than righties and the only state west of New York to do it.
			Religion
			- Predominantly Protestant - Large Catholic population
			Bush won the Protestants here by 20 points. But they are only 45% of the population here. Kerry scraped out a two-point win among Catholics. Kerry's margin of victory then came from the remaining non-Christian 25% of the state.
			Demographics
			-  Heavily suburban - Large rural population
			There is nothing in Hawaii classified as an urban area. But paradise being a strange place, Kerry didn't need one. In fact his margin of victory came from rural Hawaii, where he scored very well. Hawaii was the only state west of Vermont in which Kerry won the rural areas, a virtually impossible feat outside the Northeast. He also picked up a narrow win in the suburbs. As noted above, the suburbs, that is Honolulu, where most of the population lives gave Kerry the most trouble. He won there very narrowly. The other, less populous islands gave him wide margins.
			Other factors
			Hawaiians were split almost evenly over Bush's performance as president but 53% of them did not like the war.
