District of Columbia
3 votes
Kerry - 81 points
The last time the District voted Republican....
... was never.
Race
- Majority African-American
- Large white population
Race, like most things in this heavily Democratic stronghold, was
not much of a factor here. Ninety-seven percent of blacks and
80% of whites voted Kerry.
Age
All groups - Kerry
Nothing to analyse here. The oldest voters gave Kerry 87% of the
vote and they were the
LEAST supportive group.
Economics
All groups - Kerry
Nothing here either. Kerry did not manage less than 80% in any
group.
Politics
- High partisanship
- Overwhelming Democratic tilt
- Excellent Democratic loyalty
- Horrifically low Republican loyalty
- Independents tilt overwhelmingly Democratic
Not much here either. When Democrats outnumber Republicans
and independents combined almost three times over, it's not
exactly a nail biter. But Democrats here do have a quality not
found among their brethern elsewhere: They actually vote
Democratic. At 97%, our nation's capital sports the highest
Democratic loyalty rate in the nation. Meanwhile, even the
Republicans in D.C. don't like the Republican Party much. At
75%, D.C. has by far the least loyal Republicans in the country.
Ideology
- Overwhelming liberal tilt
One of the few places on Earth it is unpopular to be a
conservative. Liberals outnumber moderates by two points and
conservatives by 32.
Religion
- Predominantly Protestant
- Sizable Catholic population
- Small Jewish population
Trust me, religion was not a factor either. Everyone voted Kerry.
Demographics
- Completely urban population
No rural areas. No suburbs.
Other factors
Less than 3 in every 20 voters approve of the war. Bush's overall
approval mirrored those numbers and three of every four
residents "strongly" disapproved of him.
